A Brief Summary of Who We Are

ECS grew out of a popular weekly program in 2000 and was initially managed by a local organization, who were passionate about investing in the children of Chandanhola with an aim to impart preparatory and remedial education so that children could overcome the initial learning hesitation and learning gaps in the mainstream education and be professionally employed. In 2016 EWEF took over ownership of the Ebenezer Community School and since then has been working tirelessly to bring about transformative change in a sustainable, effective and respectful way. There are currently 200 of the community's children, who all live within a 5-kilometer radius of the school. The school is located in the South-West part of New Delhi.

Our History

1997

Ebenezer Community School (ECS) started in Kharak village, on the outskirts of south-west Delhi. Dr. N. V. George, then principal of a theological seminary, and his wife, along with Rev. Ricky Medom, Pastor of Naga Christian Fellowship, Delhi (NCF), and Mr Joy Julius Raj, envisioned it and organised the community to provide quality education to the children of those who remained on the margins.
ECS started with humble beginnings in a small rented cowshed primarily focused on giving primary education, especially to girls, to the marginalized community, who were mainly daily-wage migrant laborers.

2003

The NCF took over the school. It was well supported by its members and the East West Educational Foundation (EWEF), a non-profit organisation.

2005

Mr. Prabhat Chandola volunteered to manage the school on behalf of NCF and helped in organising medical camps and teacher training with EWEF. The community embraced the school, and soon the people living in the community flooded for admissions. One of the local businessmen rented his building with eight rooms for ECS to hold classes. But due to a space crunch, the numbers are restricted to 200, even though the demand is huge.

2016

EWEF took over the ownership of Ebenezer Community School from NCF. Student-centered interactive methodology and curriculum were introduced. EWEF, through its other unit, Metro Delhi International School (MDIS), continues to support ECS financially and professionally.
